Honesty is the Most Beautiful Thing

A recent post included a reference to Rose Bean Simpson,  daughter of Roxanne Swentzell. Rose is an amazing artist in her own right: a poet, singer, sculptor, and painter.

Oh, and she is an excellent skateboarder, a fact I gleaned from observing the ease with which she handled herself on this miniscule vehicle. I’m sure this brilliant young woman embodies many other talents that those who know her, personally, could expound upon, at length. If you, dear reader, happen to be one of them, please inform me!

Rose’s blog,  3D Poet, Rose Bean Simpson, allows you to feast your eyes and your ears on her  words, art and song. This is a woman of substance. She speaks from the heart, but her heart is fed by a clear and intelligent mindstream.

Can I create beautiful things that are honest, when honesty is the most beautiful thing?

Hope on the Rez

A rock in the ground is

the center of the earth

and from there I came.

When my eyes they opened

sun soaked cliffs of sand

white tipped blue mountains

held me in their arms and sang

to my red blood

songs of yellow flowers

in black mesas.

And I sing.

Talk as Talk can: A conversation at SITE Santa Fe / Excerpt: Rose B. Simpson
Talent for pottery runs in the family is an article from The Arizona Republic, Jan. 25, 2009.

[A]mong the Santa Clara Pueblo potters, there is the extended Naranjo family, descended from matriarch Rose Naranjo (b. 1915).

It would be hard to find a more accomplished family anywhere: In some ways, they are the Tewa equivalent of J.D. Salinger’s Glass family. Of Rose’s eight children, you find not only potters but authors, college professors, sculptors and a filmmaker. Among her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are some of the best and most respected artists working today.

About CarolWiebe

Art entices, inspires, and delights me. Art is a vehicle for laughter, tears, wonder, enlightenment--taking me on a constant path of discovery. You can't say that about housework (except, perhaps, for the crying part).

  1. Cool self portrait!
The photo on your recent post doesn’t show up, so I can’t see your creation!

Isn’t it? Rose Bean Simpson is a major talent, and so eloquent as a speaker!

Thanks for the heads up. I worked too late, and forgot to set the permissions to public!
